This is a smallish and friendly place situated on the shore of Kangaroo Lake. A very pleasant location. The crowd was also congenial. Classic feel. I'm sorry to report the meal had more misses than hits. The menu was more varied than expected and there were a couple of vegetarian options (Quesadilla, portobello burger). First up on the miss list were the deep fried mushrooms; breading was undercooked, the oil still clingy, and at the bottom of the plate was a long dark hair. That pretty much ruined my night. In ordering my burger, no option for preparation was given (perhaps a blessing in disguise) and it arrived on the well side of medium well. Bun was substandard, off the cheap rack at the grocer. My son's Quesadillas were given a thumb's up (hunger-induced?) but there were too many basics missed to make me want to return.

Best ribs I've had in a long time! Seemed like more of a local crowd than tourist spot - which we loved!

Stopped by for lunch on their deck with a view of Kangaroo lake. Waitress was very friendly and made us feel at home. The open faced rib eye was fantastic! We will be stopping again.

After a long night of driving up to Door County, all of us were hungry. I mean we were really, really hungry. Thankfully, my dad knew of Coyotes Roadhouse to satisfy our food needs. When you approach the restaurant/bar, you realize that it's really a roadhouse next to Lake Michigan. The interior decor reflects it as well with old Dutch ovens for lampshades and board wood tables. Lucky for us, we got there right before the kitchen closed. I got a burger with thick cut bacon and bbq sauce. Though the burger was a little paltry in size, it hit the spot. The bf got the same thing and devoured it fast; not the norm with us. My mom's chicken sandwich was good too. My dad's garbage salad looked plentiful as well. Our service was friendly. I'd say that it's a decent bar/restaurant for Door County. It's definitely a departure from the sterile fake Irish pubs that appeal to tourists. I'd be back for a brew next time I'm there.

For me, what stands about about the Coyote Roadhouse are the great burgers and the friendly service. We stopped here for dinner; there were five in our party, two adults and three kids. The waitress brought out crayons for the kids right away. The atmosphere was very casual, but friendly and welcoming; my daughter spilled her milk but this was not a big deal, although this place has a "pub" atmosphere and what looked to be many regulars drinking at the bar, we were not made to feel unwelcome because we had children. Service was quick and attentive. We didn't order anything fancy; just burgers, salads, and kids' meals; but they were all reasonably priced and good. The burgers in particular were juicy and tasty, served on a toasted bun; and the salads were better than one would expect for a small place like this. I recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a laid back, decent meal that's not too expensive. We'll definitely be back!

Good food, good service. Wings were excellent. A delicious light light breading. Very rustic but what you would expect.

Very good food. The heaping loaf of onions is huge so be warned. We dined outside and had a very enjoyable time. Good steaks, sandwiches, and beer. I would recommend this for anyone with a family or just adults.

Have you ever walked into a joint, where you can hear the crickets chirp as you take your first step in and the "you're not from 'round here" looks also indicate "you're not welcome." We'll, that's not the reception you'll receive at Coyote Roadhouse, but the one you would sure as hell expect. As a quick to-go and a must see, as you pass over a land bridge to get there, we ordered some chicken tenders and rib-eye sandwiches to go. The lady who served us was "real nice" and had all of her "teef". Too bad we couldn't stay longer to meet some of the locals, but the pick up to-go was well worth the minimal effort extended, as this is now a "for sure" stop while up in Door County.

I'll just preface this by saying I'm a native Floridian and fish snob. The grouper sandwich at this place was awesome, even by Florida standards. I don't know they do it, but it was fresh, light, moist - perfect. In Door County! Hubs had a burger - he said it was great. 2 year old concurred and ate most of it. Bloody Mary was good too. Cheese curds were great and chicken quesadilla for the kids to split looked fab w homemade salsa on the side. Heard the table behind us proclaiming the ribeye and mushroom soup were both delicious. I'll just go ahead and assume everything here is yummy. Our bill was only $45 before tip. A cute little down to earth friendly place.

On a visit to Door County we saw Coyote Roadhouse in a local guidebook listing and tried it for fun. My family was very impressed with the service and food. The onion loaf was fresh and hot. The burgers and quesadillas tasted wonderful, freshly made and were served quickly and very hot. The prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend you try it out - especially the onion loaf!

I really like this place! My husband and I stopped in for lunch after taking a drive up to Door County to leaf-peep. We had eaten there on a trip to DC and not much had changed in 3 years. The food is still good, service still friendly, fast and attentive. I had the Portabella mushroom sandwich and my hubby had the jambalaya. We also sampled the deep fried green beans which were different and tasty. I'll be sure to back next time I'm in that area. They also have a deck with outdoor seating that looks out over Kangaroo Lake. Cute place and worth a stop. Friendly crowd in the place as well, all watching the Green Bay Packers beat the St. Louis Rams!

Excellent fish fry on Fridays (grouper) that is "all you can eat" and surprisingly light. Others in our party had their ribeye sandwich, reuben, and battered shrimp. Service was great, prices were nothing to complain about, atmosphere is very casual and fun. If you are vacationing in Door County, this is a spot you really should hit. It's clean and always has a crowd, so you know the food is good and fresh. I think they also do a walleye fish fry on Wednesdays, but I'm not 100% sure.

If you like "rustic" you'll love this place. The atmoshpere is rustic, but nice also. The drinks are poured strong and the food is pretty good. Prices are decent as well. One of my favorite places to go in the area. It's not your average "tourist attraction". It is "real" and the locals love it.

  • Ann Marie w.

Personally I think the service here was not great the past couple of years, but the food is good and if you can stand the bird-size mosquitoes, eating outside is nice. Drinks are cheap and poured strong.

A pretty fun place right off of Kangaroo Lake. We went for our anniversary dinner on 6/30/15. A bit different than the usual eatery you find in Door County. Sports Bar-y but still manages to be charming. Our meals were just fine (I was craving BBQ) and our service was quick and friendly.

I really like the atmosphere of Coyote Roadhouse. There is a beautiful view of Kangaroo Lake, the inside decor is fun, and I enjoy the music. There is a nice outside area to eat and play volleyball during the warmer months. Each time I've gone my food has been decent but nothing too special. I feel that it is a bit on the greasy side (the onion strings and the cheese sandwich). The quesadillas were pretty good. Overall it's a nice place to go but with so many dining choices in Door County this one doesn't top my list. However, I would probably visit again to hang out at the bar and enjoy the atmosphere.

We sat outside today, the weather, service and food was great. We had the onion loaf and a blue burger and the western burger. All were very good. We will be back!

We adore this place. No matter the season, you feel like you are stepping in to an old road house. They are welcoming and the bloody Mary's are so good. In the warmer months you can sit outside and overlook Kangaroo Lake. The food is delicious and it is just a great home town cozy feel there. It is our favorite stop to make in Door County for a quick bite to eat, or to relax and stay a while.

We just finished our dinner it was awesome from the service to the food. We enjoyed a variety of food starting with cheese curds, which were served with a delicious dipping sauce. That was followed by tonight's special a chicken chimichanga with beans rice and chips n salsa. There was also a burger ordered at our table served with French fries. Everything was phenomenal.

Went in kinda stressed-out during an 'all-to-frequent' Door County power outage, harfed-down an awesome Blue Cheeseburger w/ sautéed mushrooms and fries, and came out to find the WPS (Wisconsin Power Service) coming in for lunch. Shoulda been ticked, but hey - the Dude abides.

I'm a sucker for (and claim to be a bit of an expert on) good onion rings and since this place advertised a "heaping loaf" for 9 bucks, seemed worth a try. All the recent Yelp reviews were quite positive about the food, and, altho, none mentioned the loaf, I was up for trying it anyway. Turns out it's huge--about 3 times the size of the loaf you get at Hackney's in the Chicago area for the same price. All the other customers that noticed it when the waitress brought it stared at it like they'd never seen anything like it, and 3 different folks commented on it when they walked by our table. It probably could have fed everybody in the place. And besides that, they were good! Not quite the best I've ever had, but right up there. And certainly an incredible bargain for the price--always a highlight for me. We also liked the other items we had. My cheeseburger was quite good and the German potato salad side was great! My wife often orders quesadillas and did so again tonite and claimed their version was the best she's ever had. Now we'd both had a couple of beers by then, but still... So the next time you're anywhere North of Green Bay, you should have a meal at the Roadhouse!

The strawberry salad was delicious. It comes with lean grilled chicken breast, your choice of feta or blue cheese crumbles, fresh strawberries and vinegrette and it's only $10, which is a deal for the Door County area. I will definitely be going back for it!

The five stars is reflective of what it is - the best of the sort of divey burger places in the area. But don't let the facade fool you - this is a very inviting, high quality place. This place was awesome. The food was great, drinks were strong and a decent beer and wine selection. We sat inside, but the kids played outside and had a blast. I also liked when the proprietor scolded one of the kids at our table for goofing with her phone during dinner - amen sister!

Great restaurant/bar in Bailey's Harbor. Located on County Rd E near the causeway of Kangaroo Lake. Nice menu and a fantastic beer selection. Service was great and staff was super nice. Kind of small inside but they also have a deck with outdoor seating for the warmer months. Definite hang out for the locals but a go to destination for anyone visiting Door County. Good food, good drinks, good times. Cheers!

Wow! This place has amazing ribs! They are super tender and fall off the bone but still are crispy on the outside, it is a fabulous combination. My only recommendation would be to get the BBQ sauce on the side as they put a little too much of it on for my taste. The sauce tastes great, don't get me wrong I just like the dry rub on it the most!

  • Tad H.

The hand breaded perch sandwich with their tartar sauce was good as were the French fries. The service wasn't so great. Waiter was slow to get to our table initially, the Food was slow to arrive and the waiter was scarce. Food solid B. service D. And that was because the older lady (manager/owner?) that greeted us and checked on us several times was great otherwise they would have failed.

Insensitive to allergies! Ordered my burger without butter because I'm allergic. My bun had butter on it and when I very nicely told my waitress she picked up my burger and shook it at me!! She said there is no dairy on this burger and put it back down on my plate! I would not suggest this place.

I went for the all you can eat Friday night Grouper. I would highly recommend it. It was cooked fresh to order and not pre-made. The fish was really good. I would recommend that if you think you'd like more than three pieces of fish (standard order), be sure to ask for more before you finish what is on your plate because it took quite a while to receive my second portion. The atmosphere was comfortable and a great place to relax or have your favorite drink.

Coyote Roadhouse is a great casual place to grab a bite to eat when in DC. Really good burgers and the tap beers taste better than other places for whatever reason. The outdoor area is great for the kids. There's plenty of room for them to run around, play with the tire swing or at the volleyball pit while waiting for the food. Love the outdoor area, but the flies can be out of control. Not sure what if anything can be done about, but the fly situation can be a bit crazy.

So I have been going to Door County (and Kangaroo Lake, where the Coyote is located) all my life (38 yrs), and my mother has gone all of hers, and my grandmother went all of her life and my great grandfather all of his. So needless to say I have know the Coyote since it opened and knew the place it was before that. It's the only place to grab a bite on the lake so I really hate to have to write a bad review but I gotta do it. I'm so disappointed in the place. Door County is for me a place where people are nice. A nice escape from the city. Well not at the Coyote. My husband and I have been trying for so long to get up there from Chicago on a friday night just so we could make it to the All You Can Eat friday night fish fry. The food at the CR is nothing special but I've always thought it was decent, and the place feels like a real rustic roadside bar which makes it a fun place to go. Anyway, we made it for the fish fry this year. Our service was beyond rude. So here's how it started... We went at 5pm for an early dinner with our 16 month old son. We ordered the ALL YOU CAN EAT fish fry and I asked our waiter if it was alright that my son eat (nibble really) off our plates. It's hard to get him to eat much of anything lately so we hate to order him food and we don't feed him "kid food". He was more interested in the crayons they gave him anyway. So the waiter said sure. We had not even finished our first round of fish when the waiter came with another piece for each of us. Ok, so that was nice. He came back to the table again though and this time with the check not even asking us if we would like something else. We actually wanted to order another beer but since he didn't ask, we didn't. After a quick glance at my husband I said, "actually, we would each like another piece of fish". He seemed a little annoyed but kept the bill and went off. It took forever for that last piece of fish to come and when it did a woman brought it to the table, who we think was probably the manager. She put it down quite gruffly with an angry look on her face, saying nothing and walked away. We looked at it, yes it, she only brought one piece and it was overcooked and part of the breading was empty. We started thinking why are they rushing us and why wouldn't they bring us what we ordered. If they don't want to serve an ALL YOU CAN EAT Fish Fry then they shouldn't call it ALL YOU CAN EAT. But then my husband said he thought some of the people working in the bar had been looking over and saw us feeding some fish to our son. Not until now did we realize they were probably thinking we were being cheap not getting a meal for our son. Though the waiter should not have said it was fine to feed him from our plates (something he probably did not tell the woman that served our last order of fish). We would have been happy to pay a small amount for him if they said we had to. My son ate probably the equivalent of two adult size bites of fish. So we will no longer be going to the Coyote but if someone from the Coyote reads this you should all lighten up a little, be a bit more friendly and realize that most kids under 2 or 3 don't eat much.

Personally I think the service here was not great the past couple of years, but the food is good and if you can stand the bird-size mosquitoes, eating outside is nice. Drinks are cheap and poured strong.
